SERVER RACK BENEFITS

EPI racks are available in 42U, 45U and 48U internal heights, 600mm and 800mm widths and 1000mm and 1200mm depths.

Available both with and without quick release side panels, the racks are rated at 1500kg static load and are suitable for all server, storage and networking applications.

Using a unique EPI developed solution, the equipment mounting rails can be positioned without tools simply by lifting the rails, repositioning, and re-engaging. This permits quick and easy rack setup for specific mounting depth requirements.

EPI’s zero-U patching solution allows RJ45 and fibre ports to be presented at the sides of the rack without obstructing mounted equipment or occupying mounting U space - even in 600mm wide server racks. Each mounting plate accommodates four or six 6C patching modules or twelve MTP fibre connections, and can easily be fitted to a bayed rack.

The 800mm wide racks include integrated rear vertical cable management channels on each side.

Optional brush strips are available which limit the amount of air that re-circulates around equipment sides as well as above and below the rack, improving cooling efficiency and reducing cooling costs.

INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT RACK (ISR)

A 300mm wide rack designed to house power and network distribution for adjacent server racks.

  • 300mm wide cabinet for power and network distribution
  • Three height options - 42U, 45U and 48U
  • Two depth options - 1000mm and 1200mm
  • Suitable for network distribution and switches
  • Suitable for power distribution and EMS systems
  • Provides services for two adjacent server racks
  • Reduces requirement for 800mm wide racks
  • Compatible with EPI’s enclosed aisle technology
  • Top or bottom cable entry
  • Glazed door option allows equipment to be seen, mesh door options
  • Includes two vertical cable trays, cable hoops optional
  • Four bays of 5U on each side, total space 40U

INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT RACK (ISR) BENEFITS

Footprint Saving
Prevents the need for 800mm racks, even when high power and network densities are required. One ISR is only 300mm wide and can supply power and networking to two adjacent 600mm racks, saving 100mm width compared with a solution composed of two 800mm racks.

Rack U Space Saving

Each ISR has a total of eight (four at the front and four at the rear) 5U-wide, vertically orientated 19” mounting bays allowing up to 40U of equipment to be mounted in each ISR.

Equipment Housing

The 40U of available space is typically used for mounting patch panels, brush strips, PDUs, and similar equipment. When installing equipment which requires substantive cooling it is recommended that space behind this equipment is left vacant and that the perforated mesh door option is employed.

Equipment Mounting Options

The front and rear cross members within the ISR are removable allowing equipment such as EPI zero-U vertical mounted PDUs to be installed instead of standard 19” mounted equipment.

Cable Management

Each ISR includes two 150mm wide cable trays running vertically between the front and rear mounting rails. The ISR is compatible with both top and bottom cable entry.

Increased Efficiency
Removing power cables, network cables and PDUs from the server cabinet improves airflow and maximises cooling efficiency and reliability of servers and storage.

Compatibility
The ISR has been qualified for use with EPI’s rack range and is fully compatible with EPI’s enclosed aisle technology.

Security
Both front and rear doors are locking and can prevent unauthorised access to patch panels, network switches and power distribution.

Options
Optional brush strip kits are available which limit the amount of air that re-circulates around equipment sides as well as above and below the rack, improving cooling efficiency and reducing costs. Optional cable hoops are available that help route cables horizontally between the front and rear of the ISR as are side panels.

AISLE ENCLOSURE

A roof and end-of-aisle door system that encloses the aisle between two rack rows, allowing air to be contained and directed, improving efficiency and reducing costs.

  • Improves cooling efficiency enabling greater heat dissipation
  • Directs cooling air to where it is required
  • Prevents air recirculation and loss of efficiency
  • Roof sections include glazed side panels and centre white LED lights
  • Doors automatically open if fire suppressant gas discharge is imminent
  • Prevents server fan damage caused by gas discharge over-pressure
  • Compatible with all EPI racks including the ISR
  • Servo opening, battery-backed end of aisle doors that can automatically open in the event of fire, allowing suppressant gas to reach IT equipment without damaging servers.
  • The enclosed aisle improves cooling efficiency enabling greater heat dissipation whilst the shaped roof panels help prevent cooling “dead spots” at the tops of the racks.
  • Enclosed aisle access via PIR, keypad or card reader, exit via PIR or by push-button with emergency manual over-ride.
  • High efficiency integrated white LED lighting eliminates dark working conditions that are typical with many enclosed aisle solutions.

AISLE ENCLOSURE BENEFITS

EPI’s aisle containment enclosure system has been designed to minimise hot spots and overcome the traditional problems associated with enclosed aisle systems such as poor lighting and ineffective fire suppression.

The enclosed aisle system can be used with both hot and cold aisle installations. When installed as a cold aisle, the enclosure contains and directs cool air and prevents it from bypassing IT equipment by spilling around the ends of the aisle and over the top of the racks. In the hot aisle configuration the enclosure directs the hot air exhausted by the servers directly back to the air conditioning equipment, preventing mixing with the cold air supply. In both instances cooling efficiency is improved and costs are reduced.

1200mm wide roof panels are used to bridge rows of racks. The roof panels (which can be 300mm, 600mm or 800mm deep) include a raised centre section to improve server cooling at the top of the rack and give more space in the aisle. Integrated side toughened-glass panels and central high efficiency white LED lighting are standard with the 600mm and 800mm panels. This overcomes the dark enclosed aisle conditions that are common with many designs.

The end of aisle toughened glazed doors have servo assisted opening and closing. Aisle doors are normally operated by proximity sensor, but for higher security external access can be controlled by keypad or access card.

A door controller module allows factors such as door open time and door opening speed to be adjusted. During server installation the doors may be programmed to remain open allowing unimpeded access for server lifts etc.

The door servo mechanism may be linked to the room fire detection system so that in the event of fire the doors are automatically opened. This allows the room fire suppressant gas to reach the servers without risk of stressing equipment cooling fans which can be caused by the resulting pressure wave when fire suppressant gas is discharged in a closed cold aisle.

After gas discharge the doors are automatically closed. The door servo mechanism includes integrated rechargeable battery backup, so in the event of utility power failure the doors can be programmed to open automatically.

The doors can also be fitted with a emergency manual override allowing the doors to be manually opened from the inside.

Without Cold Aisle Containment (CAC), hot spots can occur in the cold aisle causing loss of cooling efficiency and increased server temperatures.

With Cold Aisle Containment (CAC), the air at the front of the racks is maintained at a uniform cool temperature preventing hot spots from occuring and improving cooling efficiency.
