Data Centre Monitoring

EPI's Data Centre Monitoring service ensures that all aspects of your data centre will be monitored and abnormal events will be reported and managed, before they become critical.

Our Remote Monitoring Centre is staffed 24 x 7 x 365 by experienced operators who monitor the status of your Data Centre,  wherever it may be located. All events are reported in real time using EPI’s remote monitoring software which maintains a secure network link to EPI’s RMC Concentrator and sensors installed at your site. Events are logged and assigned to the appropriate site support engineers, ensuring problems are resolved without your intervention.

We can monitor all environmental aspects of your data centre such as temperature, humidity, water leaks fire panel, intrusion and security. We also monitor critical subsystems such as power, UPS, air conditioning, condensors, chillers and generators that are essential to the health of your data centre.

Room monitoring can be through our AIMS Advanced Integrated Monitoring Subsystem and direct to SNMP capable devices such as UPS and Air Conditioning systems to ensure a truly comprehensive monitoring solution. Abnormal conditions indicating critical faults can be passed directly to your site maintainers, whilst less critical faults can be managed by scheduling a maintenance visit during office hours. With comprehensive history records we can trap faults before they affect your operations.

REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

At your monitored site EPI will install a network connecting together the monitored resources with a concentrator appliance which is provided by EPI. Any type of SNMP capable device can be monitored, for example UPS, generators, air conditioning, environmental monitors, power subsystems, etc.

The network can be part of an existing network or a physically separate network implemented by EPI solely for monitoring purposes. The concentrator appliance polls monitored hardware and stores monitored values (such as temperature, humidity and hardware status) and received alerts (traps) in a database on the concentrator.

This database is replicated using a secure encrypted VPN at EPI’s redundant monitoring servers located at diverse geographic locations. The connection to EPI’s servers can be through a dedicated internet connection and can therefore, if required, be physically isolated from your existing network infrastructure ensuring utmost system security. The database residing on EPI’s servers is monitored for changes which generate graphical alerts at our 24x7x365 monitoring centre. These events can have varying severity and are processed according to previously agreed procedures, for example dispatching an engineer immediately for critical alerts whilst delaying until office hours for non-critical warnings.

MONITORING CENTRE

The EPI monitoring software allows alerts to be assigned to operators for analysis and handover to your nominated maintainers. You are free to define the conditions under which you are informed of any issues, and how any issues are to be managed. Monitoring availability is assured by employing the latest resilient hardware with multiple redundancy wherever possible. The distributed nature of the monitoring software allows EPI to monitor you data centre from multiple sites ensuring monitoring continuity.

The monitoring system maintains comprehensive log files allowing monitoring staff to examine trends to help diagnose problems, often before they become critical.

REPORTING SERVICES

We can also generate reports showing received alerts and the course of action taken to resolve them. We can even create reports showing trends within your data centre, for example, environment, availability and efficiency graphs showing the performance of your data centre over the last 12 months.
